Standard Fees and Discounts
I offer an initial complimentary consultation at no charge for therapy clients as a time for us to get to know each other and mutually decide if our working relationship seems like a good “fit,” as I gain a better idea of what is happening in your life and what you wish to change about yourself or your circumstances.
My standard fee for follow-up appointments is $125 per hour, based on my credentials as a PhD level licensed psychologist. I realize, however, that not everyone can afford the high cost of therapy, and so I offer a $50 discount to cash paying clients who have limited resources (i.e., $75 per hour). Additional savings, such as honorarium and pro bono arrangements, can also be made for those with very limited resources (i.e., pay what you can, when you can, if you can).
Decreasing the frequency of therapy sessions to once or twice a month, rather than weekly, or decreasing the time of sessions to 30 or 45 minutes, rather than an hour, can also help reduce costs. Clients with insurance are generally only responsible for their office visit copayment, assuming all deductibles have been met. Fees vary for groups and weekend retreats and are priced at the start of each group and retreat.
Please note that the standard therapy hour is generally broken down as follows: About 45 minutes for us to meet, then about 5 minutes for us to schedule any follow-up appointment or take care of any business, then about 10 minutes for me to write a brief note of our encounter.
I am currently in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, and Tricare, and can generally accept any PPO insurance plans, which usually allow clients to choose any doctor they wish. I am also happy to work with any Christian Health Share plans that include mental health services. I am not a Medicare or Medicaid provider, but I can see these clients on a cash basis, including a reduced rate if needed, as described above.
